The Danish Digital Motor Register, DMR, is Denmark’s register of all vehicles subject to registration. The Danish Motor Vehicle Agency runs it, and all registrations, changes of ownership and deregistrations happen there.

What is in the register?

DMR contains technical information about the vehicle as well as information about the owner and user, taxes, insurance and inspections. The technical information includes:

  • make, model and variant
  • body type, colour, doors and seats
  • fuel, power, engine capacity and cylinders
  • kerb weight, total weight and permitted trailer weight
  • first registration date, status and usage
  • vehicle identification number (VIN)

What is public?

The technical information is public. Anyone can look up a vehicle at motorregister.skat.dk, and the Danish Motor Vehicle Agency publishes the technical data as a complete extract that anyone may use.

Information about the owner and user is not public in the same way. It is not included in the extract, and PlateRunner never provides it.

Why use an API instead?

The Motor Register’s own website is made for a person to look up one vehicle at a time. The complete extract is a very large file that first has to be unpacked and read before it can be used. PlateRunner does that work every week and gives you the vehicle’s data with one call, in a fraction of a second.

How current is the data?

We fetch the Danish Motor Vehicle Agency’s extract every week. A vehicle registered within the last few days may therefore be missing until the next update.
